NextGen mParivahan app launched by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), is tool designed to make life easier for every vehicle owner in India. It is a “Digital wallet” for your driving documents.

mParivahan is an official government mobile app that brings multiple transport services together on a single platform. Key Features and Services
The app is full with features to manage your vehicle and license:
- Virtual RC & DL: Create a digital version of your Registration Certificate (RC) and Driving License (DL).
- Challan Services: Through the app search your traffic fines and pay.
- Vehicle Info: Check details of any vehicle registered in India by entering its number.
- RTO Services: Find the nearest RTO, check for pollution centers.
- Document Sharing: Share your virtual RC with others (like family members).
Signup and Login Process
- Download: Install the NextGen mParivahan app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Sign Up: Open the app and click on “Sign Up.” Enter your mobile number and you will receive a OTP code verify it..
- Verify: Enter the OTP to verify your number.
- Complete Profile: Provide your name and set a 6-digit security PIN (MPIN) for quick and secure access.
- Login: For future use, enter your mobile number and your 6-digit MPIN to log in.
How to Apply for a New Driving License
In many states, the process is now completely contactless. With your Aadhaar card, you may not even need to visit the RTO to take the learner’s test.
- Open the App: On the NextGen mParivahan home screen, click on “Driving License”.
- Select State: Select the state where you live.
- Apply for Learner’s License:
- Select “Apply for Learner License.”
- Select “Applicant holds Aadhaar” for a faster, home-based process.
- Fill Details: Enter your Aadhaar number and the OTP. This automatically fills your name and address.
- Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of your age and address proof.
- Pay Fee: Use UPI or Net Banking to pay the application fee.
- Take the Test: If your state allows it, you can take the Online LL Test from your computer. Once you pass, you can download your Learner’s License instantly.
Documents Required for DL:
- Age Proof: Aadhaar Card, 10th Marksheet, Passport, or Birth Certificate.
- Address Proof: Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Electricity Bill, or Rent Agreement.
- Photo & Signature: Scanned copies (usually under 20KB–50KB).
- Medical Certificate (Form 1A): Only if you are over 40 years old or applying for a commercial license.
How to Apply for Vehicle Services (RC)
Use this if you need a Duplicate RC, Ownership Transfer, or to Renew Registration.
- Dashboard: On the app, go to “Vehicle Related Services.”
- Validation: Enter your Registration Number and the last 5 digits of your Chassis and Engine Numbers.
- Authentication: Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
- Select Service: Select what you need (e.g., “Issue of Duplicate RC”).
- Fill Form: Complete the online form with the required details.
- Payment & Appointment: Pay the fee. If your state requires a physical inspection of the vehicle, book an appointment slot for the RTO.
Required Documents for RC Services:
- For Duplicate RC: A copy of the FIR (if lost), Original Insurance, and PUC Certificate.
- For Ownership Transfer: Sale Letter (Form 21), Original RC, and Valid Insurance.
- For Address Change: New Address Proof (Aadhaar/Voter ID) and the Original RC.
Checking Vehicle and RC Details
If you are buying a second-hand vehicle or just want to check your own status, follow these steps:
- On the Dashboard: Click the “RC” tab.
- Search: Enter the vehicle registration number (e.g., DL12AB1234) and click the search icon.
- View Details: The app will show basic info like the owner’s name (partially hidden), vehicle model, fuel type, and registration date.
- Create Virtual RC: To see full details and carry it legally, click “Add to Dashboard for Virtual RC.” You will need to enter the last 5 digits of the Chassis Number and Engine Number (found on your physical RC) to verify ownership.

1. Is the digital RC/DL in mParivahan legally valid?
Yes. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, digital documents available on the mParivahan app are legally valid under the Motor Vehicles Act and the IT Act.
2. Can I use the app without an internet connection?
Once you add your Virtual RC or DL to the dashboard while online, you can access those documents anytime, even without an internet connection.
3. What should I do if my vehicle details are not showing up?
Check that the registration number is entered correctly and without spaces. If it still doesn’t appear, it could be due to incomplete data syncing between your state RTO and the Vahan database.
4. How can I pay my traffic challans on the app?
Visit the “Challan” section, enter your RC or DL number, and if any fines are pending, you’ll see a “Pay Now” option to pay using UPI or net banking.
