Two Main Licenses: Learner’s and Permanent

Learner’s License (LL): Your Practice Permit

A Learner’s License is the first step for new drivers. It allows you to practice driving legally while learning the rules of the road. You must follow safety guidelines and drive with supervision. It is valid for six months.

Permanent Driving License (DL): Your Freedom Pass

A Permanent License is issued after you pass the driving test. It gives you full legal permission to drive on public roads without supervision. It proves that you understand traffic rules and can drive safely on your own.

How to Apply for a Driving License

1. Visit the Parivahan Sewa Website:

• Visit to sarathi.parivahan.gov.in.
• Select your state from the list.

2. Apply for a Learner’s License:

• Navigate to the Learner’s License section and start your application.
• Fill in your personal details and upload the required documents.
• Pay the applicable fee.

How to Check Your Driving License Application Status

1. Visit the Official Website
   • Open your browser and go to official Sarathi Parivahan website: sarathi.parivahan.gov.in.
2. Go to the “Application Status” Section
   • Look for the section labeled Application Status to track your application progress.

3. Enter Your Details
   • Application number (essential).
   • Date of birth.
   • Captcha code to verify you’re not a robot.
4. Check Your Status
   • Click Submit or Check Status.
   • Your driving license application status will be displayed on the screen.

Renewing Your License

Check your driving license renewal regularly. Here what to do:

1: Timing Matters

• You can renew your license up to one month before it expires.
• If your license has been expired for over five years, you must apply for a new license.
• If you apply within 30 days of the expiry date, the renewal will be counted from the original expiry date.
• If you apply after 30 days, an additional ₹30 late fee applies, and the renewal will be effective from the new application date.

2: Documents Required

• Your existing driving license.
• Form 2 (application form).
• Form 1 (self-declaration of fitness for non-transport vehicles).
• Form 1A (medical certificate for transport vehicle drivers).

3: Renewal Process

• Go to Parivahan Sewa website: parivahan.gov.in.
• Click on “Driving Licence Related Services”. Select your state.
• Click on “Apply for AL Renewal”.
• Add your driving license number, date of birth and captcha code.
• Click “Get DL Details”, choose license category, RTO and state.
• Upload the required documents (Form 1A, address proof, age proof, photos) and pay the renewal fee.
• After verification, renewed driving license sent to your address.

• Lost or Destroyed: If your license is lost, you’ll need a duplicate.
• Damaged or Unreadable: If it’s torn, faded, or otherwise unusable.
• Photo Update: If you update your picture.

Application Process

• Open the official website Parivahan Sewa.
• Click on “Online Services” then “Driving Licence Related Services”. Choose your State.
• Click on “Apply for Duplicate DL”.
• Add your DL number, date of birth, and captcha code and click “GET DL Details”.
• Enter your mobile number, email and address.
• Select “Issue of Duplicate DL” or “Replacement of DL” and click “Proceed”.
• Upload, Pay, and Print:
  • Upload required documents.
  • Pay the fee.
  • Print the payment receipt.

• Book an Appointment and Go to local RTO with documents for verification.
• After verification, duplicate license will be mailed to you.

Through Parivahan portal easily you can check and pay eChallans online.

Checking and Paying eChallans:

• Visit to official portal parivahan.gov.in.
• Click on “Online Services” then “eChallan”.

• A new page is open  echallan.parivahan.gov.in.
• Click on “Check Online Services” in menu bar then “Check Challan Status”.

• Add your Challan Number, DL Number or Vehicle Number.
• Click “Get Details”.
• Your Challan Details will appear pay online.
